Worst Team to Make the NT Topic

The tournament seeds in Rupp just came out today, and one of the teams to make it is Brandeis. They won the Upstate conference and are a 16 seed in the NT. Has anyone ever seen a worse team?

worst rpi to make the NT D3 was Manhattanville-Tark season 0003.   they had 343 rpi,  finished the regular season 9-17 against a 371 SOS  (actually they were even worse at end of reg season because those rpi numbers include 4 CT wins and a loss to probably the best team in D3).  Simai was coach

there have also been 5 other D3 teams that made the tourney with 300 rpi or worse.
Icluding tanzetti's Adrian-Iba 0011 squad  that finished with 326 rpi.
They finsihed the regular season 5-21.

a couple other teams also went 5-21 and amde the Nt.   I dont think anyone has ever had fewer than 5 reg season wins and made it.
there was alos a team that was 2-14 in conference and won their CT to get in.

im guessing that many of these involved injuries or academic issues or promises to freshmen.

In the early years, shocking upsets were more common. It wasn't unusual for a bad team to win their CT.  At some point, the engine was tweaked to give the top teams better odds.

In Knight, my Manhattanville team--which I've since let go--was 11-15 (7-9) going into the CT. I've never been more shocked at a conference tourney run in my life.
