Recruiting starting in Tark soon so I had a few questions.

I was at B- prestige and dropped to C+ and noticed one recruit in particular, who's 100 miles away so fairly cheap, go from my D2 board to D1. I don't have FSS yet but I have some questions in general about this situation. Since he's such a borderline player should he drop to me quicker? Would it be worth putting in some initial extra effort given his distance to try and pull him down? If I do try to pull him down what's the best way to go about that, I've gotten drop downs before through applying effort throughout the process but I'm not sure if they were necessarily pull downs.
How valuable are scouting trips compared to other recruiting efforts once I get the information I need? I feel like I may be overvaluing the value of scouting trips compared to visits, so cost wise when is it most affective to use visits over scouting?
If you're battling for a guy and you have a perceived cash and prestige advantage, what is the max distance it's safe to continue battling assuming the other team is around 100 miles away (no less)?
Will the amount of effort you put into an illegible player help to determine whether he goes to a JUCO or not? So if you barely spend anything on him but he accepts, is he more likely to go JUCO than if you spend a lot on him?

I'll probably have some more questions as recruiting gets going and I'll post them here so if anyone wants to throw in more questions feel free.

1. He will drop fast. Maybe 11 a m day 2.
2. Pull downs are always risky but if he is that good you are only talking 2k.
3. Scouts are pretty inefficient for recruiting value. They are 35-40% of the value of hv.
4. Depends on how much more money you have. Battling a local guy is tough once you get past the first bump(210?).
5. The more effort you put into ineligible the more.likely they show up.

adding effort of any time won't affect drop time. adding scouting trips is the only way to pull down, and if you don't send enough to pull him down that effort doesn't entice him to drop any sooner, although of course when he does drop you still have that effort in.

one thing I don't know is how much those evals would count after a drop down following an unsuccessful pull. Evals don't have full value on pull downs, but if you fail the pull down, then the kid drops, does their value revert to 100 % normal? idk that one...I'd guess no since the effort is applied when it runs and just sits in a pool or whatever and probably doesn't "look back" to apply new modifiers...

If he is close distance wise and close to the borderline of one division and the next, you might discover with a phone call that he is already open to recruiting even though he appears one level up from you.

absolutely not, you don't go back and get the effort for things done while the player was still a division above you.

agree on all this except that scouting trips are very reasonable within 200 and not awful up to 360. it depends what you are talking about, obviously they are not optimal, but its a very reasonable hit within 200 miles for the info you get (suppose you convert HVs to SVs so you can do exactly 3 SVs for the same effort, its not possible obviously as the ratio is not 3:1 but that would still cost you about a hundred bucks, which i am happy to pay even for information on players i expect to sign uncontested so i can know more about them and plan the rest of recruiting better, as well as their practice plans, and for players you might have to decide to battle for or not, this value can be worth many times the hundred dollars you pay).

Holy crap, Melville wrote shorter sentences than that second one.
