A weird new trend? Topic

In the league I'm just 20 games into, I've notice a weird trend among some owners. They're playing their starters way beyond their minutes for a game or two, then tanking one and overplaying subs! So you see patterns like a team winning two in a row easily, then losing like 150-21 in their next game. I guess if you keep winning 2 of 3 you end up with a pretty good .667 winning percentage, but I don't see how they can maintain this for the whole season. Anyone else seeing this?

this has been going on for years.  Ultimately it fails for various reasons.  Beyond the sim reasons why it fails, you don't want to ever give your opponent a free victory in a seven game series... the sim is already wonky enough.

A matter of opinion. .. so in in my opinion this statement is inaccurate. .. but I won't waste energy trying to reason or explain it...

It is a strategy like any other like the assist% gimnick, defense, or efg% which requires certain accuracy to know when and why to tang(k) a game. Of course, this strategy it isn't for the perfectionist or faint of heart...

It has been going on for years (well before you were here).  That's a fact. It's also factual that I've never lost a playoff series to the strategy.  I've never seen anybody who tried the strategy win the championship (though someone did once make it to the finals against me using this strategy).  There are many reasons why (factual reasons based on how the sim really works), and because of those reasons (and the fact that throwing a game in a seven game series means you have to win 4 out of 6 instead of out of 7), it is my opinion that it's a stupid strategy, but I would never tell someone not to do it if they were THAT confident in it... especially if they were going to play me in a playoff series!

unless of course it was against the clearly stated rules of a theme league to do so in which case the schmuck who tried it should be flogged in the public square and banned from future participation

FWIW, I always hate when people do this because it isn't fair to the rest of the League.  I'm sure one team or another receives the benefits of this owner "tanking" individual games more than others do.

yeah you'd really have to be kind of a dick to do that

Hey, let me see if i learned to spell this word "hypocrite" ha not a personal attack just thrash talk.... I learned recently thrash talk is allowed and encouraged according to the policies. .. of course that's been debated as we speak... trying to help college kids to use their brain it's difficult these days...

And you don't worry about it... your teams are so weak I don't even need to apply the strategy vs most of your teams...

Yeah, it's been before i joined in 2006... and ditto to you I don't need to apply it vs your teams most of the time I can win vs the mustangs teams consistently .... that's simple one more strategy I have been trying to perfect over the last two years.... It has it's advantages and disadvantages like the assists% or defense gimmicks. .. with one lacking boards and the other perimeter offense. .. But in your words to "each his own" dman probably one of the best of all time use it and won... and you can draft with basketball preference and make it work... but in the end it's a numbers game and regularly the best numbers team win... unless there's politics involved. .. but you know who tend to act behind scenes like a watch dog to regulate certain things like this strategy. ...

Heck even, Murphy use it... and that was important in order to win that championship with a 6th seed... except like I said it's not for everyone. ..

tang, I thought we were through with this dumb ****...  Don't start talking **** you can't actually back up (the mythological head-to-head record you seem to flaunt).  All I see is 47 more rings than you, and the other guy you insulted has even more than that.  I mean... 120+ vs 8.  Shhhh...

It's unfortunate that some people will do whatever it takes to win, no matter how "wrong" (unrealistic?) it may be.  That's just a reflection on how f'd-up our society has become.  Of course, if WIS actually gave a sheit about it's NBA  SIM customers, they would have eliminated the loophole when it was discovered.  Plenty of blame to go around.  It is what it is, and it isn't changing, (like a lot of other wrong / unrealistic things about the SIM) so we should all just deal with it and move on.
