Offering a Walk-on a Scholarship: Topic

I just took over a team during the "Application Period" and there is a walk-on that I'd like to keep on the team. I've never done it before, so I clicked on the "Offer Scholarship" prompt and got this message-
"You can NOT make changes to a player's scholarship status prior to the conclusion of the job change period or after signings begin in recruiting."
I know it's possible (right?), so when can I offer him a spot on the team? Thanks in advance for your help.

I've never done it, but I think you can offer schollies to your walkons - but not walkons leftover from the prior coach.

No idea why, but I think that is the story.

If there is a way, think twice....would you rather have the slot and the $$ or this guy

The reason, I would speculate, is because Sim teams get slightly better (i.e.-- occasionally useful) walk-ons while human-coached teams generally get the dregs of humanity filling their rosters, so doing it that way prevents someone from capitalizing on a fortunately-generated Sim walk-on (why this would be a concern, I have no idea...)

I think that's B.S. You should be able to offer them scholarships whether they are Simmy recruited or not.

operationally, I think the system does not allow a new coach to do anything at that stage - can you cut a guy then?  I think you have to wait until the season rolls, but it has been a while since I got a new team

I sent a ticket on this once.  I took over a D1 team that would only return 3 scholarship players and one was worse than one of the walkons (who would actually have been somewhat useful and had some blue and black categories).  I sent a ticket because I really wanted to offer a schollie to the walkon and rescind the other (back down to the bare minimum of 3.

I was told they would put it on the list, but it was not really a priority.   It's certainly a back-burner request, but I see no reason whatsoever not to allow the new coach to offer scholarships to walk-ons that are carried over.  It would be nearly impossible to have a good read on the remaining potential of a walk-on before you got there.

Agree with this 100%
