I'm trying to break away from some of the guys I use regularly for my bullpen and was wondering if anyone would mind sharing some guys they've found to be pretty effective for $2,000,000 and under. I've found some good success with the guys below just in case anyone else out there may be looking.

1987 Jack McDowell
1987 Rick Reuschel
1919 Ray Caldwell
1907 Tom L. Hughes (under $900k)
1983 Jaime Cocanower (under $800k)

McDowell is similar to Bob Milacki but not as good. If you can fit both on your roster with no trouble then he could help you in the playoffs. 
I've used Caldwell a couple times with good results but have been reluctant to use him again, as if I don't trust the results.
I've used Cocanower he was ok nothing special. If his salary and IP were exactly what I needed for my 25th roster spot I might use him again but I sure wouldn't build around him.

Marshall Bridges 1960 is just over a million and can combine with another low-budget pitcher to be a composite closer. 

Cy Falkenberg 1915 is probably the best buy under 1.8 mil. Also Hooks Wiltse 1915. 

Man...an interesting question.  So many good pitchers under $1.5 million.  Italy hits the mark with Falkenburg in that he has 52 IP but I think he actually costs $1.7 mil.  Try Mike O'Neill at $1.2 mil who has 48 IP.  At just over $1.5 mil is Frank Dwyer who gets you 51 IP. 

I like Pedro Dibut and Sergio Valdez for a few under the radar guys.  I think of the guys you listed robbman, I've only used McDowell. I'll have to give the other guys a try. 

One guy I can't understand is Tim McCabe. The guy is a bargain at around $1.3 mil I believe and has 44 IP, but seems to be tired for a few games after he pitches.  If you set him at 15 pitches he ends up being tired for like 2-3 games.  At 44 IP you'd think he would bounce back a little quicker.

McCabe was primarily a SP so that has something to do with your problem.  I remember reading a few years ago that SP used in relief take a little longer to recover.  I use him at 10/15 on pitch count also and set his pull rating at 3 and sometimes 4 according to the salary cap.

Thanks Mensu.  It's strange though because I believe pitchers like Cisco Carlos (42 IP) and John Butcher (43 IP) were also starters but I don't have the same problem of them getting tired as I do with McCabe, who actually has 2 more IP than Carlos and 1 more than Butcher.  I'm not doubting you're right on this, but perhaps I'll need to play around with his pitch count and pull rating as you suggested.

I am new at WIS Baseball....I like all the posts....I have a question though how much $ should I spend on pitchers that seems to be my problem with my first team....all my batting is above average so I need to know how to spend money on pitching...I did my batting first had like 38 mill to spend on pitchers is that too little cause it seems like I am going to run out of IP before end of season and I had over what they said I needed but the numbers are not what I thought they were....plus Mickey Mantle is a disappointment 50 plus AB .225 average

Welcome to the SIM!

Last things first: 50 AB is way too small a sample size from which to draw conclusions.  Let's say you have someone batting .300 through 40 ABs who then goes on an 0-10 streak (not at all unrealistic): he's now batting .240.  Also, regarding Mantle and a lot of other stars of the game who seem to underperform consistently, read everything you can find here on Normalization.  It will alleviate a lot of frustration on your part.

As for your first question, there is no set answer for how much to spend on Pitching and Hitting.  The type of team you like to run; your park; the competition; the parameters of the theme; all this and more need to be taken into consideration.  Ask a dozen SIM HOFers how they do it, and you'll get a dozen different answers.  Again, keep reading these posts, and above all have fun.

Mantle is an interesting case. He actually normalizes well and is a switch hitter, which would seem he would usually perform good.  However I think because he hits mostly HRs and  few singles he doesn't do all that great in Sim which has a lot of deadball pitchers in use.  He actually doesn't even seem to do all that great in leagues that prevent the deadballers from being drafted.  For the money, he usually isn't worth it.

Add another to the list, 1918 Pete Alexander 33ip/$1.2 mil.

Jack Quinn 1913 - $1.42 m
Caleb Thielbar 2013 - $1.89 m
Lefty George 1915 - $442 k
Matt Capps 2008 - $1.55 m

I use Betancourt and Quinn exclusively as Setup guys.  Capps and Thielbar can be great closers, as well as Setup guys.  George has been a great Mop Up guy for me and occasionally a Setup man.
