Declining Player Option/FA Status Topic

If I have a mutual option with a player who is highly rated (86) and I decline the option to bring him back, does he go into the FA pool with the possibility of being an "A" rated FA that if signed will bring me compensatory draft picks? Or does he become an FA with no possible compensation?

If you decline the option, you are not eligible to receive the compensation pick.
