Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Deivi Campos is currently my starting CF, and he has a Player Option for next season. I've been eliminated from playoff contention at this point, and starting to shape my roster for next season. Knowing if I should plan to replace him will shape the way I go about doing that. The option is pretty significant ($10.8M), but my team hasn't been great during the duration of his contract. Long story short, I want to know which will play a larger role:  team success or cash in his decision making process ?

In my experience, cash doesn't factor in. I've had some older players pass on options with large contracts, and there was no way there were gonna get close to what they passed up on the FA market. 

I don't know if team success factors in, but I use options alot and, in my experience, they tend to stay more than they opt out. Its not a huge difference though. From what I've had happen to me, I'd say 55%-60% stay and 40%-45% opt out. I'd be curious about others' experiences though.

I've been confounded by option decline since the beginning of HBD.    A guy will opt out of a 4.7m deal and ask for 4.4m for one season.   Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Bud Welch     Saved me 300k. 

Thanks for the input. That is certainly strange about Welch, I wonder why that happens.

No idea.    I've seen guys decline 8m then ask for 3y/20m or something like that.   Which makes sense in a way.   But asking for 1y at less money does not. 

I guess the real question is why your paying him 10 million to begin with...

Because I was new to the FA bidding war process at the time and offered him a better deal than he deserved, and now I'm paying for it...although I still like him, it would just be nice to have him a little cheaper. Live and learn.
