The team I play tomorrow takes and makes a lot of threes, and its best four players are guards, who take the bulk of the team's shots. How committed should I be to taking away the perimeter? I'm thinking +2 or  +3, but I'm new and have no frame of reference.

I don't have any problem going +3 or higher. The higher + you go, the bigger the rebounding penalty. Keep that in mind.

Looking at them just briefly, only one of their main four scorers makes more than 2.0 three's a game.  I wouldn't go higher than a +3, maybe +4 with halftime adjustment "always on" on your defense incase it needs to adjust.  Make sure you get your matchups right in man-to-man as well.

I would only go +2 against Ursinus, personally.  I'll go higher than that in general, though I rarely go +/- 5, but really Ursinus isn't a great 3-point shooting team.

The coach of ursinus is probably going to read this and destroy you with his unstoppable computer brain

I'll sometimes go +5 if it's way above normal.

there was a time +5 used to work really well especially at D-3, but they've made some adjustments since.

Not sure I would be so quick to use the + . The team you're playing is a good offensive rebounding team, so the two extra three point shots they may end up making could help your own teams cause by keeping the other team off the offensive glass if you go - . Also, the number of easy two point shots you could be giving up. I haven't observed the game matchups enough to say not to use a + defense, but you have to evaluate the whole situation.

From the bottom of DIII, everyone is scary, even Sim AI teams.

Thanks for the responses, guys.

I rarely go higher than +2 against SIM AI teams .. and usually go +1 against the SIMs

I didn't realize he played man to man. I would've just tried to put the strongest defenders on the 3 pt shooters and probably go no higher than 0, maybe even negative. In addition, teams will shoot the 3 at a lower percentage against a man to man defense.

Yeah, I ended up getting beat, but I don't think it was the deep ball that did it. I'm really not at all athletic, and my defense is not good either. I see a lot of close losses in my near future.
