Sign up now for a brand new 16 team progressive that will begin with the 1961 season.
I'm going to call it the
Serious Fun Progressive League because I am seeking owners who will take the league very seriously in terms of personal responsibility, roster management, and planning, but who also are looking to have a lot of fun with it as we go along. Team threads in the private forum and active banter between owners on the league page will be highly encouraged. I intend on documenting the leagues history from day one so we will have some historical context as we go along.
This will be a fairly standard single-season progressive with the following details.
- Alternate WIS Format B: two leagues, each with two 4-team divisions. The 4 division winners will make the playoffs; there will be no wildcard. There will be no interleague play.
- Basics: No WW, No Salary Cap, No AAA players, No Live play. Injuries off. While the league will not use the DH during its initial seasons, once we reach the 1973 season the DH will be used by AL teams only.
- Ballparks: You choose your ballpark in the initial 26 round draft. Choose any ballpark listed below. When your team moves to a new ballpark in real life you will have the option of moving to the new park or remaining in your original park. Our Kansas City and Milwaukee franchises will similarly have the option of moving to Oakland/Atlanta, or staying in their original city.
- Team names: I want to use real, actual major league team names, however, you can use any team name that existed in your city at any time in history. Refer to http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/ for names used by various major league teams (for example, the St. Louis franchise could be called the Cardinals, Browns, Perfectos, Brown Stockings, Maroons, Terriers, or Red Stockings). No two teams can have the same nickname.
- Initial Draft: The inaugural draft will be a standard serpentine draft, reversing in round 3. In other words, round 1 will be 1-16, round 2 will be 16-1, round 3 will also be 16-1, round 4 will be 1-16, round five will be 16-1, round six will be 1-16, etc.
- Future Drafts: Straight format (1-16, 1-16). Order determined by W-L record at the 120 game mark. For the first round, the five teams with the worst records and at least 30 or more wins will be placed randomly. Any team with less than 30 wins will automatically be placed in the #6 slot in Round 1. From Round 2 on, we will go with a straight W-L determined order. In the case of ties, the first tiebreakers will be head to head record, second will be record versus divisional opponents, third will be run differential. In tiebreakers the team with the better record gets the earlier pick.
- Trading Draft Picks: Picks may be traded up to two years out. For example, in 1961, you may trade 1962 or 1963 draft picks only. During the 1962 draft, teams may trade picks for the current draft, or for the two subsequent drafts, etc.
- Additional Details: I will post a complete league Constitution before we begin the draft that will expand on and clarify the rules listed here, though most pertinent points are covered in this post. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.
