Help me stop running this team into the ground Topic

St. John's Wooden

I thought I was doing okay sitting at 7-0 #1, then **** hit the fan and I've gone 2-7 since.

Any thoughts or ideas?

The most recent change I made was moving Key from starting SF to backup SG because he was playing like crap.

thanks

I briefly scanned some of your losses. Just a few thoughts.

How about ditching the uptempo against the better teams?

FB + Press + uptempo against strong teams seems to be equaling a ton of fouls, especially in the 2nd half. I see some - defenses in there which probably isn't helping that.

This and your SOS is the major contributor to your losses. Your team is good but not so strong that you can just go balls-out against the top teams.

Also, you have a redshirt, which doesn't help your depth in running something like this.

I don't think you are running the team into the ground. Sometimes, you get a streak of tough games or bad luck. The only thing I do not like about your team is this : your main scorer is a PG who can pass. I think it's a waste when you have 80 + passing and the PG takes the shots. It's tough as it is getting a true passer, when you have one, you need him to distribute the ball. I would never run uptempo, except against SIM or bad offensive team on your team. Your offense is not potent enough. Go normal and slow down against better offensive teams. Your defense will do the rest.

Disagree 100% with the comment regarding your PG. That kid is a stud for DIII. Keep feeding him the rock.

Other comments regarding uptempo are correct. You are not getting the best out of the team due to fatigue.

Thats been a confusing factor for me personally I like my PG to have a very low distro and be nothing but a distrobuter, but he has average speed, 99 per and great bh, sadly I don't have another great PG where I could move him over to SG.

I agree with mully; no way I'd take the ball out of Jones' hands. I'd probably drop the distro on Newman, however. And definitely run normal tempo. Your starters are strong so keep them on the court longer.

I agree on your PG. He is clearly your best scoring option. I think your problem actually is defense though. Look at your defensive percentages. Giving up almost 80 a game and 44 percent shooting. Also for playing the press that turnover margin is not good. You should be forcing a lot more than your team is committing. Look at defense in your back court. My most elite teams. The few that went very far or went undefeated in regular season had elite defenders in the back court running the press. In your case, you don't really have even one lock down defender. I think that hurts you in the press. But I could be wrong.
