Glove rating of 55 for a 2B is going to translate into a ton of errors.  Unless you plan to play him at a less demanding defensive position until he "grows" into a ML 2B.

His current hitting ratings are mediocre.  I wouldn't put ANY stock into 6 ST AB's.

I would imagine that you should be able to find an inexpensive comparable (or better) player at the ML level to play instead of him, and let him develop more in the minors.

If I had him, I would probably start him at AAA this season. Half-way through the season, if it looks like he would help your ML team reach the playoffs, consider bringing him up ONLY IF HE WOULD BE IN THE STARTING LINE-UP. Otherwise, wait until next season.

I routinely promote players out of High A, but I feel like there's got to be a better free-agent option for LF, and he's not ready to lay 2B yet.

Agree with the sentiments above. Let him develop in AAA more and consider that he may never become an ML caliber 2B defensively. He appears to be destined to be a good fielding LF/1B.

Most of these questions are answered on very limited information.    What you should do often depends on what your other options are.    He's not a 2B and I don't think he'll hit like a COF/1B but, if you're playing some 66/60/42/42 guy who hits .227 at 2B, he's a better option.   On my teams, he's spending the year in AAA.  I have several better fielding 2B/better hitting COF/1B on the farm.   He gets a re-evaluation next year.

I agree with everyone else - the guy isn't ML material this year. Not only is his fielding profile awful for 2B, his arm isn't even up to the reendatioms for LF. And his hitting is nothing special at this point. Plus, the combination 85 speed and low 50s baserunning means he'll get caught stealing a lot if your team ever runs.

Long term, I don't think he'll ever be a second baseman, unless there's some reason to indicate that his development last year was slower than it should have been (an injury, a weak FI who has been replaced, etc).

Thanks for all the input. I agree he'll probably never play 2nd base. I feel better about continuing to be fairly slow with him

Bring him up to fast?  Presumably, players get fed in the majors, even on the rookie salary of $327k.  Maybe your training budget would have something to do with that. Discouraging him by waiting to long?  Yes, he might long to be in the majors, but he has a patience rating of 68, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Now, if you're talking about him being promoted too fast and don't want him to wait too long, then those are different issues.  But that's not really what you asked about.
