Will distributing more than 20 on a single defensive set do anything in terms of upgrading?

It seems to be pretty widely accepted that you can go up to 25 minutes on O/D sets and 20 minutes on the individual practice categories before hitting diminishing returns.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if the 20 was across the board or not.

25 gets A+ IQ about midway senior year.  I believe 23/24 do as well right before the post season begins.

I'm not sure about 20-22 but I don't think they hit A+ unless you have a good IQ student.

I'd like to offer a more aggressive approach to IQ. I have studied it extensively. I have arrived at an optimum of 18 minutes each on O/D. WE of 60 will max at A/A+. 45+ WE will be A-/A. 35+ WE B/B+. This assumes no unusual rotation or freshman starts. I have used 18 minutes for many seasons. My teams have 3NC game appearances  and 1 NC at 18. My NC team had 2 A+ players.

18 allows my to max out the individual core ratings. Based on my experience the individual are much more important. A good player with average IQ will way outperform an average player with good IQ. Individual talent always wins out over team execution. As in Real Life, if a play breaks down individual talent will prevail.

I believe IQ is the most overrated part of the game. Based on my experience a B- player will not hurt you. I have been able to find very little difference in performance between A- and A+. Again this is an aggressive approach to the game. For those who know me, you know I'm a very aggressive coach. This may not be suited for the more conservative coach. Just offering a different perspective for the new coaches to help  with the learning curve.

Interesting thoughts Coachvegas. I've found the opposite to be true. My players usually max out or close anyway, and the only thing separating me from other championship teams is superior IQ. I've also found A+ players play noticeably better than A- players. Especially when I've had young teams underperform, and yet teams rated near the same perform better when they are upperclassmen.
