This resume:
Season Overall RPI SOS  Notes
102        21-9      36   59     NT (1st Round)
101         23-7     44   95     NT (1st Round)
100        19-10     67   109   PI (1st Round)
99          20-11    90   110    NT (1st Round)

Was selected over this one:
Season Overall RPI SOS  Notes
102        23-8      66   104  PI (2nd Round)
101         24-6      25   82    NT (2nd Round)
100        20-10    78   114   PI (2nd Round)
99          26-6      24   72    NT (Sweet Sixteen)

From this it seems to me that making the NT is more important than getting past the 1st round of the NT, can anyone see anything else that differentiates?

ha, i applied for this one too and didn't get it. i guess if you go back further than 4 years, his record looks a little better--seems like he has more winning seasons and NT bids than you over the last 10 seasons? the FAQ says it goes back that far when considering a coaching resume for a job. still, that coach is just 1-14 in the NT overall, and you're 5-15. really, it's all kind of a crap shoot to see what you qualify for and who gets what when it's like this. i don't think it's really crazy that he got it over you. it does seem like a toss-up depending on what the logic values a little more.

Resumes consist of 10 seasons, not 4.

I have complained a number of times before that longevity is overvalued and top end success is undervalued, and this seems like another instance.

What was the job?

Washington State.  I applied as well and was very surprised I didn't get it.  I definitely have the better resume over the last 4 seasons, so his longer track record at D1 had to be the reasoning.

hmm, yeah, looking at the various resumes, i am kinda surprised that you didn't get the job, bro.

Nobody applied to Arkansas? I thought it was the better job?

Better job?  No way.  WSU was a B- prestige, and Arkansas was a D+.  I didn't even know it was possible to get a BCS school down to a D+.  They were filled by a good coach though, so there were probably several quality applicants.

I'm more surprised no one applied to West Virginia, which is also a B-.  It was open at the beginning of the job period, and didn't get filled at 2:00 last night, meaning no one qualified even applied.

WSU is C+ right now, Arkansas is D+. Crazy it's that low. They might be close to equal in baseline prestige, but Arkansas is a tremendous long-term rebuilding project. WSU could be decent in a couple seasons.

West Virginia was a keep looking job for me. i was quickly rejected. there's obviously a huge wall in there somewhere between B-/C+ in terms of the qualifying standards, as the BCS jobs in Tark get snatched up immediately once they fall to a certain grade.

WSU came open late in the job period last offseason at a B- and went unfilled.  Kind of regretting now not putting in for the job then.

yeah, last time it was "keep looking" for me and i didn't qualify for it. this time it was "step backwards" for me. falling to C+ probably opened it to a lot more coaches.
