C+ Reputation and Tarkanian D1 Topic

As always, I need informations about D1 since I only have one team.

1) Do I still need to pull down players at C+? I guess so. I need to know up to what ? Do I need to pull down four stars prospects? I guess I am not eligible to get five stars prospects. Can I recruit three stars prospects straight up? It's key to my next recruiting session.

2) Tarkanian D1 is really competitive and stuck... There are not a lot of D1 big 6 teams available. There are only three as a matter of fact. All over B in reputation, I think. Any of you gave up on this world? I mean, It looks as if It could take forever...

3) I know we had this debate. But my first class (six recruits) is gone, so I need to recruit six more. Would you go to a A-10 gig, sacrificing a C+ to get to C or C-, to get more money recruiting and a better base prestige. If I move, It's now...

Thanks for the help.

  1. Yes.  I started typing more, but just have confidence.   You know what you're doing.
  2. Don't count until you find out which coaches have burned out and forgotten to renew.  You won't know that until tomorrow.  The reality is that you're doing well, but with only 4 seasons at IUPUI, your loyalty rating is going to hold you back a little.  Just keep getting to the tourney and once you win a game, then you might be surprised when a coach at your dream job takes a bad beat early in the tourney, flips out and leaves.  Happens often enough.  2 a day worlds compress the time to getting to those Big 6 jobs, that is why, perversely, more of those jobs are filled and why the site should open one more 2-a-day world...now!
  3. Not if you are daydreaming about a Big 6 job.  With only 4 seasons since your last move, you may find those A-10 jobs out of reach as well.  Use the openings to land 2 very strong recruits and keep making the tourney.  After a few seasons you'll give a coach a bad beat and they'll leave.  Voila!  You'll have your Big 6 opening.

Tx Rogélio. I am not daydreaming. I just find the process long. And I do not know how to recruit in D1. But I think I am going to go with your advice. Shoot for two studs and see what happens??

Well...let me take a guess at the next lesson you will learn.  If you pulled down a true 4 or 5 "star" recruit with a C+ prestige and very little bonus cash, you'd actually be hanging a "kick me" sign on yourself.   And some Big 6 school will oblige.  You might be able to nab a sneaky good, but slightly flawed, 4 "star" without attracting too much attention.

I mean, you never know, if you have a great recruit within 10 miles and you waste no money (not even on FSS), then you might be able to battle a distant A prestige school that had already been beat up in a couple battles.  However, I've lost $100k on a single recruit (or pretty damn near).  That can happen.

The key thing is that if you decide to reach up, then you've got to show no battles and no waste.   At every level, if you are going to battle, you need to figure out how much money your opponent can devote.  Prestige or distance advantage? How many openings?  How much bonus cash? Any other battles...at a disadvantage?  Any obvious waste?  Clearly lacking carryover?  They are scouting you and choosing to poach you based upon that.

I think you're a little worried about the stars next to prospects! those guys are more frequently targeted--rogelio is right. you'll always be a prime "poaching" target at IUPUI. besides, those guys aren't all great anyway. there are plenty of 1-star or 0-star guys with high ceilings.. at IUPUI, I think a better strategy is continuing to focus on those high-potential guys below the radar. when those guys are juniors/seniors, you'll have your best chance of scoring a win or two in the conference tourney and getting the big 6 bid you want

the jobs do open up. i felt similarly in tark 2 seasons ago, and then last season i was able to move to a big 6 job. and my record in Tark is horrible. so you'll get there.
