Who else hates sparky? Topic

I hate when I lose in extras, it's usually because sparky makes stupid match ups and brings in the wrong pitcher. What are some of the dumbest things sparky has done?

Here's one from the PM game that just simmed:

8th inning, we're down 3-1, bases loaded, 2 outs.  We have 1985 Cesar Cedeno (AVG# .441) on the bench, rested.  Who does Sparky call in to PH?  1994 Orlando Merced (AVG# .270).  Merced grounds out to 1B, we lose the game, 3-1.

The opposing pitcher was a righty, so I assume that's why Sparky chose Merced over Cedeno (which would be okay if the batters were remotely close, but clearly they're not in this case).

I checked my Pinch Hit hierarchies vs. RHP for "Need Contact" and "Need Power" and Cedeno is way ahead of Merced on both lists.  Merced is ahead of Cedeno for "Other" but I assume with a close score this situation was not "Other."

Anyone have any idea why Sparky might have passed Cedeno over for Merced?

Up by 3 bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, 2 outs, RH Gavvy Cravath at the plate. My Closer is struggling and has thrown 31 pitches already so who does sparky bring in? My Set Up A LH Billy Wagner who is 100% rested and has a WHIP of .87 thru 35 IP? No. Set UP A RH Dennis Eckersley who is 100% rested with a WHIP of .72 thru 33 IP? No. Set Up B RH Bryan Harvey who has a WHIP of 1.14 thru 29 IP? Still wrong. Bring in the LH MOP UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With a WHIP of 8.26!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thru 8.2 IP.
Guess what happens next. Walk-Off Grand Slam on the first pitch to lose 5-4.

My worst one was in game seven of a World Series. Vida Blue was sailing along, throwing a no-hitter, so Sparky pulls him. The other team scores 4 in the 9th and I lose 4-3. Ouch!

I thought that Sparky keeps pitchers in when they have no-hitters. Can we get a clarification from someone who understands how pitching works here? I was pretty sure I had read this in a summary of Sparky on this forum.

I was told that a pitcher with a no-hitter would be kept in past the pitch count you have set, but Sparky will still pull him at some point. I think 15 extra pitches was the number, but I'm not sure, it's been a while. This was back when you just set one pitch count.

I JUST THINK A PITCHER WITH A NO-HITTER SHOULD BE LEFT IN THE GAME!

I'll take the contrary side on this.  We're playing a computer game, not real baseball.  I've set my 'pitcher' numbers for how I plan to win over the course of a season coupled with the 'pitcher's' performance parameters.  If I have set him to be pulled, there's a reason.  There's no such thing as a player being hot or on a streak; pull the sucker.

The only exception would be a theme where individual performance matters - kinda like my "There's no 'We' in 'Team'" theme!  See the Classifieds!  (Sorry, couldn't resist).
