IFA development patterns, regarding ages Topic

Sorry to ask this as I'm sure it has been covered before, but in my scan of older posts I didn't see anything quite on point and wanted some clarification.

I think I saw that IfA develop like high school players, so a 19 year old has one year less of development than an 18 year old? Does this apply for any age ifa? I was looking at acquiring one who signed as a 23 year old. Should I assume he is pretty much fully developed? Thanks.

You should assume that.

Mike, I heard - I know, just hearsay - that older IFAs might actually stop developing at an earlier age than regular prospects.  So, say, a 22 year old college player will develop some, but a 22 year old IFA is what he already is.  In your experience, any truth to that?

Also re: groth911's OP, I once signed a 23 year old IFA.  Five seasons in my minors, I confirm that he never gained a single point in anything.

It's not hearsay.    It's almost like IFA lie about their ages.   I've signed 23-24 who developed little if any.

Just wanted to confirm.  I've seen owners signing 22 yo IFAs to huge bonuses, based on what must be high projections, and thought "oh my god don't they know?"

In my experience, 21 yo IFA's don't develop much at all either.

I remember reading here that IFAs are as developed as players of the same age drafted out of HS. A HS draftee at 23 years of age is in his 5th year so he's done developing. At 21, he probably doesn't have a lot left to develop etc. You might get a point or 2 on a couple categories if you're lucky.
