Athleticism and Three Point Shooting Topic

Any thoughts on athleticism playing a small part in 3 point shooting efficiency. It has been noted that perimeter, speed and ballhandling all play a significant part, but what about athleticism?

I've had guards that have had low athleticism, but great speed, ballhandling and perimeter(often 90+ in all three), but haven't always produced at high level.

Nope...don't think so

I think it plays a role in determining if the shooter gets open. Its weird though, I have 10 ath guys be good 3,point shooters but I have also had not so good perimeter, speed, ball handling guys with high ath do better than I thought.

i consider ath a small factor in 3pt shooting.

I would think it would play a smaller role in comparison to perimeter, speed and ballhandling ratings, although it's never mentioned.

That kind of distinction doesn't really exist in the engine...

I think ATH matters, but not very much.  Easy to overcome with great PER and solid SPD/BH.

I haven't found any players with excellent athleticism, speed, perimeter and ballhandling(all 4). By excellent, I'm talking 90+ in all categories, therefore it would be hard to get any significant data from it.

I think before we answer this question, we have to determine what exactly is "athleticism" and how it may tie into three point shooting. Does it refer to jumping ability? Quickness? Agility?

I don't think we do.  It can mean all, any, or none of those things to you.  In the engine, it's just a nudge to the numbers.

In my little experience of playing, ath has no role in 3pt shooting at all. As I have recruited guys with below 30 ath yet great ratingss for a 3pt shooter and they were effective.

In past developer chat sessions (years ago, I'm not bothering to look up the exact one to link it so this is from memory only) they have stated athleticism includes not only jumping ability, but also physical strength and agility.

I speculate that because it encompasses so many possible skills, this is why athleticism seems to have high relative importance in the game.

I think it does.....the engine decides who is going to shoot before it decides if the shot goes in....who is going to shoot is based on distro, settings and defensive matchup....that's why good defenders limit shots as well as FG%

I use something like 40% PER, 25% speed, 20% BH, 10% ATH, 5% PAss.
