I wouldn't go so far as to say 'oddity is the norm', but you definitely will see a lot of weird things. First is the number of games: you see so many more SIM games than you do in RL that even if it were no different than RL you see more weirdness just by sheer volume. Second, even outside of Themes, you see oddball teams. I had an owner complain about my team stealing 17 bases on him in one game. Well, first of all that's not even the MLB record (19 is, I believe). Second, I put together a steals team and had 4 100-base stealers and two others who came close - on my team, not just in RL. Nobody puts together teams like that in RL, so of course you're going to see performance anomalies.
I think what a lot of people forget is that SIM is not Baseball; it's a computer game. It has its quirks to be exploited or avoided, and while we would like it to be 'realistic' (whatever that means in an historical cross-generational simulation) weird stuff happens - just like in RL, but a tad more frequently.
