How badly did I set myself back? Topic

I had four scholarships this year in Wooden. I'm only going to sign one guy; I lost four battles. Looking back, I definitely reached on too many guys and wasted too much money. The good news: I've learned some valuable lessons by making mistakes I won't make again. The bad news: I'll have three walk-ons this season.

How long will it take to correct this mistake? And how do I go about starting? I'll have six scholarships next season, so plenty of cash as long as I don't reach again.

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks. Oh, and this is at D2.

It really dépends on what you have left and your classes. But you set yourself back one year max, since it's only one recruiting season. And to be honest, better to get walk-ons than bad players.

I lost a lot this past season, but I have enough coming back to be competitive in conference. I'm rebuilding what was D-prestige program when I took over. We're at a C+ now, and I just don't want to take a step back. Is that because walk-ons turn into scholarships the next year? Most walk-ons look pretty terrible.

No it's because they walk away and you have schollies to grab real players. Don't worry about recruiting mistakes, we all make some when we start, and we still do. The game takes some time to learn. Next time, pick your battles carefully.

Most upsetting, I think, is there are a handful of guys on my Watch List who aren't even considering anyone. I just simply ran out of money chasing guys I perceived to be better.

You probably helped yourself.  Too many coaches are afraid to take walkons,  Unless you are running press or fastbreak, you can always take 2 or 3.  The last 2 players off the bench add very little.  If you will have exactly 6 open schollies next season, you've done yourself a favor!

Yup, I'll have six. I'll probably still RS the one guy I did bring in and just have to get one JUCO next season. I'll be using all that cash much more wisely next season.

If you have six, it means you will have a great warchest for recruiting next year.  Concentrate on four recruits so you can maximize your money and be willing to take to walkons.  Then if you have any money left after signings, hunt for some bargains for those two last slots.   Probably take at least one JUCO or transfer.

yes what a in the b said. Check your classes and need be you can take a juco or transfer to balance or take two walk ons unless you do FCP. Then you can spend 6 slots of money on 4. Just keep in mind if you do go the walk on route spend ALL your money wisely on the best players. As in you don't carry money over if you take walk on. So spend it and get the best players.
