Has anybody else played with the "Optimize Batting Order" button?  I don't think it works right, based on the odd batting orders it sometimes generates.  I know we all might have slight disagreements on what the best order is, but I'm talking about stuff like putting the worst hitter into the cleanup spot.

I've played with it, and agree that it sometimes makes some odd recommendations.  Such as putting my MVP-type slugger in the lead off spot.

I understand the logic of giving your best hitters more AB's over the course of the season, and your lead off guy on average will have 40-50 more PA's over the course of a season than will your cleanup guy.  But I'd rather have my MVP slugger batting 3rd or 4th after a couple of high OBP hitters rather than as the first hitter of the game (bases empty), or subsequently throughout the game after my 8 and 9 hitters,



 

i agree with tec.  had the same experience.  i ended up with my best slugger at #1 & my leadoff guy in the #4 slot.  the minors were less of an issue since i don't have as many distinctive hitters there. 

Have to wonder why they even included it, given the goofy lineups it produces.

All - the "Order" button is not working as intended. We will be fixing today.

Maybe not.

I took my lineup for my next game in Mantle, and hit the "Order" button.  It removed my 3B and RF, and inserted a second SS and a second C.

"You can only have 1 player at each position. Currently you have 2 Catchers, 2 Shortstops."

Not sure it's working as expected yet. Selecting optimizer would remove one of my batters and substitute a player from the bench. I've only tried using it once and this was the result.

Optimize will put what the engine believes are your best 8 or 9 players in the lineup, and set the batting order as it sees fit. Replacing batters with substitutes as it sees fit is how it's supposed to work. Order will keep the players you have in the starting lineup and only adjust the batting order.

Clicking Order will not change which 8 or 9 players start. Clicking Optimize will change which 8 or 9 players start.
