Failed Logic? game tempo Topic

Logic tries to tell me that if a team plays fast paced offense and opposing team plays slow down it should somewhat equal to normal for both (depending on the style of offense being greater or lesser effect). That "logic" seems failed. Why so?

From what perspective do you mean?  Fatigue?  The fatigue of the defending team is not substantially affected by the tempo.  It's mostly your own tempo that impacts that.  Do you mean total shots during the course of the game?  I would say on average an uptempo vs. slowdown game has a few less shots than normal, but it's not all that far off...

Yes I meant fatigue...I would logically (albeit failed logic apparently) think that defending more opponents possessions would fatigue a team at a faster rate.

I think this is a problem with game play.  Your team is impacted by YOUR offensive tempo and your opponent is impacted by THEIR offensive tempo.  You can not impact your opponent's fatigue.  If they press, they will fatigue faster than Man-to-Man .. and Man-to-Man fatigues faster than zone.  But you playing uptempo does not impact the opponents fatigue.  I think that is something that needs to be addressed actually.  Number of trips up and down the floor should impact the fatigue of both teams, not just the offensive team.

And this is from WIS some time ago:  Link

I should say that offensive tempo has much less impact on your opponent than they type of defense they play, based on the reply .. BUT my observation is that the impact is quite minimal on the defense's fatigue.

Thanks Hugh...apparently I have been applying common sense/logic to an illogical situation.

i think the engine's logic is that by playing uptempo, you create more possessions for the other team; and more possessions leads to more fatigue. that's how running uptempo impacts the opponent's fatigue and that's how number of trips up and down the floor impacts them.

It does have a very minor impact, but it should be more. If you actually look at minutes played and fatigue, you will see what I mean.
