Signing arb eligible players long term.. Topic

This is the first real good player I have had worthy of thinking about this. Corner OF asking for $10mil for his second year of arb but willing to sign for 4/42 mil. He was the MVP last season and is a superb hitter but average fielder. With another MVP type season does his price go up? Should I buy out the last arb years? Never had a player worth a crap before. Thanks!

Second arb year is usually the price point where it makes sense to lock him up long-term.

After 2nd arb ensures you have control for 10-11 seasons.   If he's not 27-28 y/o, arb him twice, sign him to a 5 year deal.    He'll hold his value into his mid/early 30s.

A 25 year old OF thats a 90/99/80/94/68 and good speed.  You are going to want to keep the guy, if you sign him now even at the 10.5 a year hes not going to resign at the end of the deal right?  So at 29 he will basically be a max guy on the FA market or is there a good chance to resign him again?  Makeup 80 patience 98

Yeah, keep him at all costs.  Arb him the 2nd time, stay on the page, click the long-term link on the arb page and give him 5 years at whatever he wants.   You'll have him thru age 30.
