Redshirting a Senior Topic

I am thinking of redshirting a Senior. He is nearly maxed out so I am not concerned with the drop in we.

I just want to know ... will he for sure return for that 5th season?

Anybody know the for sure answer?

Yes he will come back, guaranteed.  Great tactic when used properly.  Just understand his WE will drop to 1 and he will actually regress over the offseason before his RS SR year.  If the player has some potential left, don't apply the redshirt until towards the end of his SR season.  His WE will drop steadily throughout the season, but won't bottom out to 1 until you apply the redshirt.  Just keep him off your depth chart and set to mopup, and as long as you don't have a handful of walkons on your team he won't get in a game.

I've done it before, doing it now, and will do it again.

I would submit a ticket to see before I took that advise.

A senior can well leave if he does not get the playing time he wants, which he will not get if you leave him off the roster and he gets 0 minutes for the year.

I don't think the act of placing a red shirt on him before the end of the season would guarantee that he would not leave because of lack of minutes played.

Some players do leave because of lack of minutes, others do not.

I would not know what percent chance to put on it, but I have certainly lost JRs and SRs from teams when they don't play.  In fact, I count on it when I take over a new team if they have non walk on SIM recruits, because if you cut them then you don't get cash until the following season .. if they leave on their own, you do get cash for recruiting that season.

He will return 100% guaranteed.  Hughes is wrong on this one--a guy who gets a RS expects 0 minutes, but you obviously see a huge WE drop from the application of the RS.

This has been discussed on the forums many times, and no one has ever reported an incident of a player leaving.  Not to mention the half dozen or so times I have done it myself.  The player will return.  Guaranteed.

Even if the RS is put on AFTER he sends his 2 letters complaining? And even if he does not accept it? Because that was the recommendation.

I've done it several times too - at least 3 that I can think of and the player never left.  I can also think of conference mates that did the same thing with success.  Obviously it's kind of a dumb flaw in the game and I imagine they will clean it up at some point.

Quick question guys-

If I have only 1 SR and at then end of the season, I RS him like was described. I then get my postseason cash for that following offseason. Since I didn't have anyone graduate, didn't cut anyone, didn't need to recruit - would I still get the 100% postseason cash roll over?
