D1 No clear recruit standing out Topic

Guys, what do you do when all your top choices are taken and you have no shot to battle. What stats become more important? I am playing FB/PRESS.

I am asking myself, can I sacrifice passing, speed, bh go really low on the PF spot?

Can I sacrifice ATH at the guard spot?

It's tough to recruit when there is no clear choices.

you can definitely sacrifice any of those things if the player excels in other areas, especially if you're happy getting a solid career backup. for example, i just had a guard on my arizona team in smith who ended up 90+ at spd, per, and bh, but was only 50 in ath and def and maybe 65 in passing. never started a game but was a double digit scorer off the bench. i don't have specific examples, but for frontcourt players who are sort of the lower tier of my recruiting targets, i don't worry too about passing, speed, or bh. not saying they aren't valuable, but i think some of the advice on here can be a bit utopian, and those attributes are luxuries when you're getting down to being a realist and not just chasing guys you won't get. and i think those sorts of players are effective enough, bang for your buck, for rebuilds or as cheap backups, provided they are high ath/def and maybe can score etc. point being, they still need to be really good at something.

when there is no clear choice, I try to find guys whose potential will make them quality players or at least backups some day.

Depending on where you are - target rich or target thin geography - there usually are guys with weak current ratings but enuf potential to contribute ultimately

Find a guy who fills a role......the bench scorer hippo mentioned is a great example...I wouldn't be afraid to sign the 90 SPD/BH guy with decent FT% to come in for some backup minutes in the FB/FCP.....

I hate low end D1. It's so frustrating.

Easy.   Recruit a senior x'fer and be glad when he leaves you with additional rollover cash and the $15k to find someone better next year.  Done.

Good idea.

Low D1 recruiting is the best.  Take guys who are unorthodox who excel in 1 or 2 areas.  Really experiment with your team composition.  La Salle looks like an Ath/Def squad with no skill.  Bring in a low def shooter that can come off the bench and put up 10 on their backups every night.

Also, I'm not sure I'd say La Salle is low D1.  You're a C+ team in the A10.  That's 100% mid-major territory.

TKimble : I was not talking about La Salle. I am talking about Mississippi Valley State University Allen. I am holding my own at La Salle. We have no skills, we defend and I know I need to get some passing and scoring going to get better.

potato, potato. the bottom 60% or so of teams are played by sims... from a human perspective, low d1 = mid major territory.
