1 Opening in Double Season Prog.-filled! Topic

We have one opening in the third season (1972/73 and 1973/74) of the double season  progressive which started with the 1968/69 & 1969/70 seasons. This is the era of Wilt, Baylor, Robertson, Dave Bing, Earl Monroe etc. We will progress 2 seasons at a time. Each season owners will be able to select which of the 2 seasons they will use for each of their players, if the player was WIS eligible in both seasons. There will be adequate players available

The team available is the Charlotte Bobcats. I have posted a  preliminary keeper list for the Bobcats below. We are not yet halfway through the 1970/71 and 1971/72 season so a replacement owner will have time to study the roster and make any desired changes to the preliminary keeper list as well as review the league rules and other information in the league's private forum.

The Bobcats won the Central division in season 1 with a record of 68-14 and are currently tied for the division lead in season 2 with a record of 19-12. They will probably be drafting somewhere around 15th in the 24 team league in the upcoming draft.

Since we progress 2 seasons at a time, player turnover in the league is rapid. Rookies for the 1972/73 and 1973/74 season include George Gervin, Caldwell Jones, Bob McAdoo, Larry Kenon, Swen Nater, Paul Westphal, James Silas, Kevin Porter, Paul Westphal and Brian Taylor.

The Bobcats did trade their 1st and round draft picks for the 1972/73 and 19873/74 draft as part of the effort to build their winning team for the first 2 seasons, so their first draft pick will be in round 3.

This league is a replacement for the similar ABA/NBA progressive which started with the 1967/68 and 1968/69 seasons and completed a 24 season run, concluding with 2013/14 and 2014/15.

18 of the 20  owners (4 owners had 2 teams) from the predecessor league elected to return and we added 6 new owners. 1 owner (of the New York Knicks) dropped after season 1 with no notice and was replaced.

The owner of the Charlotte Bobcats notified me well in advance that he will not be returning for season 3 for personal reasons. As noted above, the team won the division title in season 1 (losing in the Quarterfinal round) and is tied for the division lead in season 2.

I  will give interested owners immediate access to the league private forum, which contains the league rules, a 1970/71 and 1971/72 draft thread (including the draft schedule and an available player list) and a thread with 1970/71 and 1971/72 keepers by team.

In a couple of weeks we will be posting keepers for season 3 and I will begin preparatory work for the season 3 (1972/73 and 1973/74) draft.

If it makes any difference, I'd be very interested in trading for the combined 2600 minutes Johnson and Reed have to offer during their final season in this league. Perhaps for Chet Walker's 2 separate $5.4 + mill. seasons?

Attles retired after the 1972 season. Marv Jackson, Dave Lattin and Flynn Robinson should almost certainly be cut, as well as perhaps Luther Rackley, meaning the team will need at least 4-5 draft picks.

The team is definitely a rebuilding task as only Beaty and Sloan have very good seasons remaining, although Reed and Nelson are still useful players. Unfortunately, the team traded it's 1st and 2nd round picks in the upcoming draft and so will not have a pick until the 3rd round (this may havce contributed to the owner's decision to not return).

Sounds like a good reason to make that Johnson and Reed for Walker deal mentioned above.

Many teams have quite a bit of roster turnover now.    The pool is pretty reasonable though, with the ABA in play.

I agree, but will leave the decision to a new owner.
