I had an interesting recruiting experience this past cycle in Crum. I know I have seen past threads re: can you pull someone down without them considering you and when does considering credit start to accrue. Maybe some of you already know these answers.
At the start of recruiting, I sent a call to a D1 PF/C and received a back-up message. The next cycle I sent 15 SVs + a scholly and received the following scholarship e-mail:
"Coach, I'm really struggling right now - trying to figure out how to best let you know that I just don't see myself playing for you next season. I have some pretty appealing options right now, but just in case, I'll keep your offer in case those fall through."
He wasn't considering me, or anyone else. But based on the feedback, I got from his SVs I decided to recruit a different, immediately recruitable D2 PF/C. I did not do any more recruiting actions with the D1 PF/C. The following day, at 2PM, I received a new scholarship email from the D1 guy, and this time, he loves me and is now considering me. Out of curiosity, I checked the my recruit search the next several cycles, and he was still listed on my D1 recruiting list for the next 4 or 5 cycles, so he had not dropped at the time he accepted my scholarship offer. I didn't attempt to send him any more effort. And after getting nudged off the other D2 PF/C, I just decided to sign him: James Skurski.
"Coach, thanks for the scholarship offer - I wish I could sign right now!"
If I am thinking about things correctly, he must have been pulled down at 11 PM on opening night of recruiting but without enough effort for him to consider me...At some point, considering credit started to accrue so that by 2 PM on recruiting day #2 he was now considering me... So, considering credit must start before 2 PM on day # 2, and probably earlier....or there was a bug.. what say you?
