has this been tried before? it would be interesting.
here's my idea:
1. pick a 2014-15 NBA team, first come first served.
2. select three keepers from that team WHEN YOU SIGN UP. (this is kind of important, as some guys were traded and played for more than one team).
3. everyone else from 2014-15 is put into a draft. the last person to pick a team gets the first pick in the draft, going backwards so the first person to pick a team has the last pick in the draft.
4. after the season, rookies are automatically cut.
5. all players from 2013-14 (besides players already on a team) are put into a draft, including rookies
6. you can draft any number of replacement players from 2013-14 NBA, or use your territorial picks on players that played for your team that season, which are used immediately before the draft begins. the more territorial picks you use, the more rounds you can't pick in the regular draft. (i.e. use 1 territorial pick, lose 1st round pick, use 2 territorial picks, lose 1st and 2nd round picks, etc)
7. if we get to a point before your franchise was formed, you can change to any active team, while keeping your roster
8. $42m cap
9. I like the idea of trading. here's how we'll do it: salaries of players during that season cannot put you over the cap. you can do it before or after the season, or over the waiver wire. players will be dropped, then picked up, and then the other team's players will be dropped and picked up. if anyone interferes, that team owner is banned from the league. draft picks must be traded on a one-for-one basis (in other words, you can't trade two picks for one pick, four picks for zero picks. has to be one for one, although you can trade picks in combination with players, who must also be traded one-for-one.)
any takers?
