Are there any worlds that have a no trade rule?

In theory I love the idea of trades but every world seems to have a few who just take advantage of less knowledgeable owners. It's not a big deal here and there but over a bunch of seasons it leaves some teams with no talent and some teams with a disproportionate amount. I have yet to find a world where this is not happening so I'm thinking the best way to find a truly competitive world based on building a team as opposed to stealing one is in a no trade world.

Join worlds with experienced owners who won't let the bullshit deals happen.

I have been seeing noob rape on a large scale lately. But if you bring anything up on the world chat, everyone involved spends a lot of time trying to explain why the trade was fair.

The noob is embarrassed and tries to show why it makes sense (I did that a few times) and the experienced owner spends a lot of time talking about how that future 89 rated prospect isn't as good as he looks.

Now I just message all the world's experienced owners separately in TC to point out the unbalanced trade, and then I TC the noob to let them know why I think its unbalanced and that I vetoed it. That way at least the noob understands and (hopefully) knows what to look for in the future.

Then I watch the fireworks.

That's exactly the worst part. As they say it takes two to tango and the owner getting boned always has a reason why he's doing the right thing. I just make a mental note of the owner doing the boning, and then veto anything he does forever. Never works, but there's nothing else to be done for it.

Are there even no-trade worlds? My experience is that even if owners don't like it when they see it happening elsewhere, they all tend to not ***** about it too much because they're keeping it in their back pocket... "never know when that might be me", y'know?

If you're seeing a lot of it, it's probably alias action.

Maybe a private world with a "mlb commissioner's office" enforced would be meeting halfway. In MLB the commissioners office technically has to approve all trades. If a world established a 3 or 5 member panel to approve trades this could be rectified.

When I was commissioner of a world I actually caught someone doing this and got WIS to boot them. So it definitely happens.

Details, no names. How'd you catch him?

Trading is a part of the game. If you have a catastrophic injury at a position where you have no reliable back up ready...a trade may be needed. I would rather be diligent with regards to unfair trades (especially noobs) than have no option.

I suspect I have recently witnessed this, but its hard for me to conceive of how one would identify this in a way that could be acted upon.

I'd also be interested in how to identify alias trading.

I wonder how much the $5 intro price really benefits the game in aggregate. Does it bring in enough new players that stick around to justify it or is it just bringing in one and done guys that contribute to perpetual dumpster franchises in addition to alias trading.

Many trades that were one sided was what made me first look at it. One team had acquired every first round pick from the other team.

I tracked the transactions log. Someone with two accounts is most likely to go onto WIS with team A and do their transactions, then log into team B immediately after. The transaction log is all time stamped. The teams involved in the trade always made all their normal transactions (promotions, IR, etc) within minutes of each other over the course of a season (could have been 2, this was a few years ago). A couple of instances would have not been enough for a correlation. But it was something like 70% of the time both teams had transactions in the same hour and the team that was getting the bad end of the trades almost always made moves when the other team did. For Example:

Team A transactions:
Monday 10 am
Monday 4 pm
Tuesday 11 pm
Thursday 9 am
Thursday 1pm
Thursday 11 pm
Friday 8 am

Team B (usually the team not managed as well)
Monday 10:30 am
Tuesday 11:15 pm
Thursday 1:30 pm
Friday 8:30 am

I track fraud for a living.

^ sound advice.
Other indicators are putting quality guys on the waiver wire for specific lousy teams to pick up, signing Type A FA's to bad deals, and approving a trade later on a Friday evening so that less critical eyeballs see it over the weekend.

NICE.

Well, I didn't want to post how to find aliases in the thread, I emailed sjpoker, because aliases might read it but here you go:

Check-in times as previously noted.

Shared worlds, current or previous. They may or may not have completed lopsided trades there but they will. It was easier when we could see budgets because they'd often have low/high coll/HS and/or low/high ADV. Always the opposite. And you can note the check-in times in those worlds.

New owner making lots of deals. They may dabble in trading but most are hesitant. The guy who boldly claims "I know what I'm doing" after making a stupid trade should be watched.

And one I'd forgotten until sjpoker asked. The guy who's been around for 10 years but is just now trying out HBD. A lot of people had multiple usernames for SLB to take advantage of introductory prices before HBD was invented.

For the most part, users who use aliases are dumb. They usually hang themselves because A) they're dumb B) they need someone to know that they've been getting over on the rest of the world. The smart ones don't post. Because they know they'll screw up and reveal themselves.
