Minimum stamina you'd recruit? Topic

I know there're a lot of threads on stamina, but I couldn't find one with this answer. I'm running Motion/Man-to-Man at D2.

I'm looking at a PG with 60 stamina. He'll otherwise be a very good player, but what if his stamina is red? Is mid- to low-sixties stamina high enough to still get good value? To this point, I've had guys really no lower than low-seventies, maybe sixties if they were big guys. I guess my question is, does low stamina scare you away from potentially good players?

Never.

I appreciate your brevity, TJ. :)

Nope. But maybe I should. Just signed an international with 52 stamina and I have no idea what the potential is.

Playing a man defense, a player can still be effective with low stamina. But if you were playing a press, 60's stamina might let that player be effective for much shorter stints. And if you run fastbreak-press, stamina matters even more.

If the issue is that you just don't see this recruits stamina, without actually studying the data, I would say it's very rare for a recruits stamina to max out below 65. It can definitely happen, but I think it's very rare. So if you are looking to recruit a player without seeing his potentials and he's currently at a 60 stamina, I think it's fair to assume that he has at least average potential.

Minimum I would consider is a guy who I'm projecting over 70 stamina unless he is just a beast. I would then go down to low 60's. More than likely though, any guy in the low 70's or less, is only an option if I never plan to rely on him as a starter.

I don't see where stamina should be a game breaker if the kid's other numbers project strength. So much of this game is about covering a weakness in one stat category in one player with a corresponding strength in that stat category in another. It seems to me the same logic applies here...I'm trading off the number of minutes from this player for the overall quality of those minutes from said player. As long as I cover his deficiency by having a stamina-strong player either ahead of him on the depth chart to where I can trot him out as the sixth man or behind him so I can use him in a starting capacity for however long he can run, I don't see the issue. I don't want a whole team of 60 stamina players, but as a one-off sort of thing where the rest of the ratings justify it, why the heck not?

I am quite happy with this guy: Thomas Lane

My subjective feel is that big guys tend to have lower stamina... not sure if that's actually true if one actually ran the numbers. So for the big guys, I'll take 60s stamina - even with press defense - if I like them otherwise and they are the best option... I probably would be more careful with a guard in the 60s generally. But it all depends on the rest of my team, other available recruits, etc. My guess is he would be a 15 min/game player.
