Signing an Ineligible Player Topic

So I signed this player who had a ton of potential with the thinking that he would sit on my roster not doing anything for a year because he was ineligible. I was one of three good schools on him hard and now it turns out he is not on the roster and is now playing JUCO. What will the situation be at the end of this season? Thanks

he will be available to recruit again next year, but the location will change - it will be the location of his juco, i guess?

people who spent effort last year will have some % of the effort still on the player. we used to think it was 25% on the forums but i think seble came out and said it was 50%, but i might be confusing two things. anyway, 25-50% of your effort will be carried over, so the guy very well may start the year considering whoever won the battle, and maybe even the guys who lost the battle.

generally speaking, if he was a really good recruit, if he is now at distance from you (over 360 miles), someone else probably will take him and the bit you rolled over from last year on him is unlikely to be enough to overcome a major distance disadvantage. that is just in general though, your situation may be different.

A couple good things can happen:
  1. His effective HSGPA can change based on JuCo grades. Looks like that didn't help here, but I've seen guys go from 2.0 to 4.0 hsgpa! That can make a big difference in IQ growth rate.
  2. If you sign him again, he'll be eligible to redshirt. You'd have to inform of redshirt during recruiting, but that's a huge deal!
The bad:
  • If he's really that good, now he becomes attractive to D1 schools (So...I'd edit your post to delete the player's profile...were I you.)
  • Like gillespie said, if he's very far away, then just because he's considering you at the outset, that may not scare away local D2 schools. However, he *should* start off considering your school. You might be able to sign him up.

you may need to take some minimal effort to get him to consider you next season - like a call or offering a schollie.
