Weird Projection Report? Topic

First of all, I want to preface by saying that I am not directly involved in this, and that it really doesn't matter very much, if at all. Nevertheless, it feels very weird.

Somehow, in Tark D3 (the only place I coach anymore), Oglethorpe is one seed AHEAD of Palm Beach Atlantic on the final projection report (Oglethorpe 5, PBA 6 - like I said, it doesn't matter much). This doesn't make any sense to me. Oglethorpe has one more win, you have to give them that. But PBA is ahead in RPI, won more in conference, and won both of the head to head matchups. PBA also went 6-5 against ranked teams, while Oglethorpe went 2-6. Now, to be fair, all of Oglethorpe's ranked opponents were conference opponents. 5 of those 8 games were against 1 seeds in the tournament, 2 were against PBA, and one was against the top 3 seed. So they were tough games. But PBA played all the same teams (except themselves, of course).

One final note that makes it even more interesting to me. I won my matchup against PBA and went 1-1 against Oglethorpe. Greensboro went 1-1 against PBA and won their matchup with Oglethorpe. After the conference semis, in which Greensboro and my Methodist team knocked out PBA and La Grange (I beat Oglethorpe in the 2nd round), PBA was 5 and Oglethorpe was 6. After Greensboro won the final, they flip-flopped. It seems like, if anything, the team that had failed to secure a victory against the ultimate conference champion would fall back a little bit, not leapfrog the team that had beaten the champions during the regular season.

BTW, I'm actually happy about this phenomenon. If I survive my half of my quarter, I'd much rather be headed for a potential matchup with Oglethorpe than PBA. No offense to theploww, but this season PBA is a much more dangerous team (Methodist is #4 on the PR).

From reading this all I can think is tough conference.

Head to head matchups, conference record holds no weight when it comes to the projection report. The fact that Ogelthorpe has 1 more win than PBA probably carries a bit of weight. Ogelthorp is 7-3 in their last 10 games, PBA is 6-4. PBA appears to be the better team based on the games played, but apparently WIS sees things differently.

From my understanding, head-to-head carries no weight in and of itself. But it's 2 quality wins for PBA, which is about as many as Oglethorpe had all year.
