The Beer League is a Progressive League that walks through baseball history two years at a time. We are currently drafting the 1999-2000 rookie draft but we are short two owners. The Beer League was WIS's first Progressive League. The first ever Progressive pick on WIS was made on June 19, 2003 and the first player ever picked in a Progressive League was Sandy Koufax.
The idea of a Progressive League was a long time getting started, but once started it was an instant hit. My ad sat in the league forum for months before we got the 24 owners we needed to start the league. The biggest problem we had that first year was that as soon as we started drafting, we started getting people asking to be on a waiting list in case an opening came up. Pretty quickly new copycat leagues started forming and Progressive leagues have been a standard in the WIS world for more than a decade with the Beer League flourishing throughout.
Now we need help. We are drafting for the 1999-2000 season and we have two openings.
Texas is the first team and the owner of this team did a fine job running the franchise before having to leave. The meat of this team is a powerful lineup with players in the peak of their careers. The lineup will boasts a 3-4-5 of Edgar Martinez (who the owner got as a steal as the 10th pick a few drafts ago), John Olerud, and Fernando Tatis.
