As suggested by Verynice (thank you, Rob!), here is the classic edition of the annual contraction league that has consisted of the most recent season at the time. Let's go back to the days when there were only 8 teams in each league, and also when the average family of 4 could afford to attend a ballgame, including parking, hot dogs, soda, and a program. In this theme, we'll keep just 16 of the 24 MLB teams and have a 5-round dispersal draft for the allocation of players from the other teams.

Description: Once 16 owners sign up, we will have a lottery to determine a draft order for team selection. Each owner will select one team from the 1969 season. 8 AL and 8 NL teams must be selected.

Once the 16 teams are selected, there will be a 5-round player dispersal draft, where the draft order for each round is based on inverse regular season record. A total of 80 players will be chosen. The draft is untimed but not unlimited time, so please do not abuse this! Only players from the 8 teams not selected are eligible to be taken. AL teams can take NL players and vice-versa. So your 25-man roster will consist of 20 players from your selected team and 5 players from the dispersal draft.

Multi-team players: Only one occurrence of a player can happen in the league, so for players with multiple teams, only the combined-season "player card" will be eligible and the team that he played for last during the season will get ownership of that player. For example, 1969 Maury Wills is on the Los Angeles Dodgers, not the Montreal Expos. Conversely, 1969 Ron Fairly is on Montreal, not L.A., so if the Dodgers get chosen but the Expos don't, then Fairly is draft-eligible but Wills isn't.

*Tiebreakers will be drawn by random.org once all the teams are selected; order will be flipped for every round. Coin flip will be called by the owner of the first of the two tied teams to be selected; in the case of 3 teams, the numbers 1, 2, and 3 will be assigned to the owners according to the order in which they picked their teams, and the order for the next round will have the first of the 3 teams from the previous round pick last of those 3 and the other 2 move up a spot.
