Should I attempt this?? Topic

Still in a rebuilding stage on my newly acquired DI Minnesota team, I now have in place a lot of solid upcoming players, including 5 current Juniors which could make for a solid performance next season which should be able to start bringing up my prestige which will be great timing for when I need to reload.

So my real question is I have a JUCO Sr. who will be a solid rotation player this year but could easily benefit from taking a red shirt to improve more of his core stats and get his IQ higher, this will also then put me at 6 Seniors and even more chance to push for a prestige bump. Should I attempt to let him grow while not giving any playing time and red shirt at the end of the season? Can we still do this....think it is even worth the effort?

Here's my team link: http://www.whatifsports.com/hd/TeamProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=4377

Thanks.

If you're willing to accept that you won't make the postseason this year, then I would redshirt him. Especially considering he's your only senior. Makes sense to me.

will he stick around? i might be worried he'd bolt/graduate anyway and you then get neither advantage of him as a player for his 4th or 5th yr

From what I have read about reshirting a Sr. Is unless he goes pro, which won't happen. They won't leave due to a redshirt.

He's also probably not going to grow a whole lot or at all since his WE will most likely drop down to 1. Any gains he make this season will probably be offset by offseason loses. Only benefit will be getting IQ up more and having another experienced player next season.

Rule #2: even with six seniors and all that cash, your prestige probably won't be high enough for you to reach for the stars.

Rule #1: utilitarianism is probably the most majestic product of the bourgeoisie....which I could argue dominate these boards.

You could also argue that humans only help others when it directly benefits themselves, Bourgeoisie or not.

This.. His WE is going to drop to 1.. So he won't grow except for IQ.

So, if he can help you next year, exactly as he is now, then red shirt him. If he can't, then don't.

for sure, but objectivism (while being an outgrowth almost exclusively of the bourgeoisie) rarely rears its face around here...and usually only very very subtly when it does.

I am a fan of the redshirting a SR move, it is a very legitimate strategy that can put your team over the edge the following season. Just remember to apply the RS at the end of the season if he has some growth left, and also expect him to get worse after his redshirted season and never get back to where he was. A JUCO may not be ideal to redshirt, as they tend to leave some growth on the table after they graduate. But if he is almost tapped out, or you are content with his stats as they are now, then go for it if you have something to win the following year. If you are just talking about the difference between a 1st round or 2nd round NT team, then its probably not worth the move.

You can treat the season while the player is redshirted as one big exhibition. Tinker around with your lineup, optimize your player distro, figure out who can hit the 3, etc. This will give a little more purpose to your season.

Thanks for all the replies....yeah I thought it over and though it is a viable option, I agree it's not worth the effort, he has plenty of growth still so I could use him if I somehow make a push for at least the PIT and still won't be a big difference for next year. Was worth the thought.
