I run motion/zone on my teams. For the most part, I don't draw a ton of fouls on offense, the way that a fastbreak team does (this is offset by my teams fouling even less). One of my D3 point guards keeps drawing a ton of fouls and I'm not really sure. What part of his ratings would indicate a propensity for drawing fouls?

And its not a one-year fluke. He has started since Day 1 and even as a freshman, he got more fouls than most of the D3 PGs I have coached.

First, he's the best free throw shooter on your team, so towards the end of a close game, with the logic in place, they're going to look to get him the ball. That's where some of the free throws are coming from.

Second point, the defenders that are fouling him are mostly with defensive ratings lower than 20.

Although he has pretty good speed for a D-3 player, it's not so much about him as it is about the end of the game situation or the player guarding him.

Lastly, he's only averaging 5 free throw attempts per game, which isn't that much.

Good BH and ATH (and probably SPD), along with not so good PER (especially if you set him to -1 or -2). That, as well as good LP (not in this case), means the ability to drive. Those kind of guards normally draw fouls.

Your guy is right on the edge of those. If he had a bit more LP and ATH and if you set him to -2 then he could draw fouls, in my experience.

Obviously if you have a SPD advantage against a defender or if he had poor DEF, that will also create fouls.

Well, in the zone, it would help to know the other guards that he'd previously been playing along side with in the zone. However, for the most part, it is an ABSOLUTE craps shot, not only from player to player but from game to game, in my humblest of opinions.

But, not to be rude, that guy seems like a pretty big foul magnet almost no matter what the situation.
