Is this the end of HBD? Does WIS have any stats on the number of new users coming into the game? How many other worlds are close to rolling over? I really thought Spring Training would bring out some excitement for the game.

It was 233 on 2/29. 113 seems outstanding when compared to that.

We rolled in less than 2 weeks with 6 openings and that was without going public. I don't think HBD is dead at all.

As usual once baseball season rolled around the situation has improved greatly. Considering there are 5 private and 9 public leagues with 10+ openings the situation isn't bad at all and the total number of openings isn't even that good of an indicator. Only 29 leagues combined pub/private are unfilled which had to be more like 60 only three weeks ago. In other words very solid progress. Will be interesting to see if it continues into April.

I wonder if there is anything they can do about the winter lull next year? I doubt it.

That line of thinking seems like it should be a myth in a dynasty game. Basically it contends that people join, play one/two seasons and disappear. If true, it's not a good sign. It means people aren't interested enough in the game to play when the weather gets cold.

For whatever reason its not a myth though because over the years the peak of openings gets worse and worse and it always seems to be in Jan/Feb. Towards the end of February this year things seemed really glum. Four weeks later the progress is pretty stunning. In four more weeks at this pace there would be almost no openings at all. Question is can this pace keep up?

History says "no". So, really, what we look at is a high sign-up rate in March/April and a disappearing of owners in September/October. That's not good for dynasty game. I mean, yeah, long-time users get to play but they should also know they get to sit in the winter.
