So Jsa Jsa, you suggest uptempo? I have 85 BH, and 94 BH on PG, SG... I still had 20 TOS. But went slowdown.
that kind of question cannot be answered in a vacuum.
the uptempo question in all cases rides on 2 primary factors, with a couple smaller factors, but the 2 primary ones are really the meat of it.
1 - Depth / fatigue - from a depth standpoint, and the impact on both fatigue and foul trouble, how are the two teams impacted? You generally can't justify going uptempo if you take a bigger fouls/fatigue hit than the opponent.
2 - Volatility - increasing or decreasing possessions affects volatility. The favorite benefits from less volatility, the under dog benefits from more.
Generally, start with the assumption that uptempo is a slight net negative for you, and only go uptempo if the two above give you a good reason to do so - you basically need the balance of those 2 factors, to tilt meaningfully in your direction, to go uptempo.
given a set amount of depth, press teams do get in more foul and fatigue trouble - and those two play off each other, they compound. but, in your generic question, its not clear who has what depth, of course in reality, its not always equal. if you have a deep team, and the press team is not that deep, running uptempo into them can be a very effective strategy - even if they are the superior team, and going uptempo works against you in factor #2 above. however, press teams often emphasize depth and stamina, so maybe the press team has more depth than you. in that case, you might be getting more tired than them, and increasing the pace will only make that worse.
what im getting at is, uptempo can be very useful against the press, but its totally situational, you have to look at the situation and evaluate it on the basis of the 2 items above, and make a decision from there. i would say in general, using uptempo to punish press teams for the lack of great depth, is an under utilized tactic.
