Good Time to Return to HD? Topic

I played HD for a while but stopped a couple years ago I think. Biggest issue I had was the need to check in frequently during recruiting. One season's recruiting got butchered since I was travelling and couldn't really check-in, then I sort of lost interest.

I saw the recruiting update thread so was wondering what has changed and how people think it is going, and what the major changes were.

I might come back anyways since I'm expecting to travel less moving forward and miss it a bit (I assume the need to check in a ton is still there). I enjoyed the game when I played it. Was at Florida in DI and had success beyond my expectations of the team, though I remember recruiting always being a little frustrating going up against Miami and Fla State in a stacked ACC and feeling like it was almost impossible to get the top tier guys from them giving the budget differences. Having 4 year players worked out pretty well for me though.

Hmm, I would have thought it would be useful for a newcomer or returner to be here before the recruiting update happens. It would provide a useful perspective, and much of the existing recruiting skills that a player learns will no doubt translate to the new set-up. I guess opinions vary -- imagine that!

Useful? Sure, because many functions will stay the same. Worth the time to learn a game when everything fundamental about how to build that team is about to change? No, not really. The more the merrier, but I'm just being honest.

My 2 cents-

If you want to play the game, then play the game. If you got the free time then why not spend it doing a fun leisure activity like HD. I don't think it matters that much what may or may not change or if you may or may not like it. You could still have fun in the meantime.

It's 12 bucks for a season full price. That's like a 30 rack of Keystone Light. Not exactly a high risk investment.

"...everything fundamental about how to build a team is about to change."

Wow, I haven't read that. I'll have to watch for that info.

Would it nice for you to return? Sure. But if I'm being honest, I don't understand why anyone would want to return right before the entire game is going to get changed. Would make sense to wait for that. Which is why the free HD giveaway is nice but ill timed...

That is to say, saying you are putting out major changes and then not doing as it hangs over the game's head for 8 months is simply bad business.
I agree that major changes cause anxiety. I also agree that WIS always very much underestimates the time they will take when they talk about major updates. (Being a software engineer myself, I have to say that this is a common thing throughout the profession though. The Software guys sometimes (almost always :D) forget to add in the time at the end of the process for QA. I do this quite a bit as well.)

I personally came back to HD after about a 4 month absence specifically because of what seble was describing in his 'new recruiting system' update. I think that conceptually what he is talking about will certainly be good for the game. But I also know that the devil is in the details. I used to like to play GD, now I hate it. I also liked the concept of what they were doing there, but the implementation did not turn out as planned and I did not like the result.

So, I certainly see this as a mixed bag .. I want the changes seble is conceptualizing, but I obviously want them in a way that makes the game play be at least as fun as it is now. Whether they can pull that off, no idea. But, I am certainly willing to give it a shot.

I would say if you miss it as you said or at least miss it enough to consider returning I would return play and have fun. Wait for the change imo you may be waiting 6+ months so either come back or find another hobby waiting to me is a bigger waste of time since there is no date of when these changes will be made.
