We are a progressive league entering our 6th season. We are called the Alpha League because alpha means beginning and we started at the beginning of WIS in 1885. We actually progress 2 seasons at a time, so in year one we used 1885 & 1886. The way this works, each owner can choose to use either the 1885 version or the 1886 version. Obviously, some players don't have an available season in both years so if not then you must use the one available.
At the end of each season, you have the right to keep as many players as you wish (assuming they aren't retired). The next season, you get to choose which of the next 2 years you want to use. So in season 2, you would choose between 1887 & 1888. All rookies in either 1887 or 1888 are in the pool. Rookies from 1887 can either be used in '87 or '88....owner's choice.
Fast forward to season 6, we are about to enter the 1895-1896 realm. We are going through a temporary shortage of players due to the American Association folding in 1891. To manage this shortfall, we are temporarily allowing 6/4 AAA players (below average) until we get to 1901-02 when the AL became a "Major League".
Our league is a 12 team league with pretty much standard progressive rules. We use period accurate ballparks, allow as many keepers as you choose, allow a DL for players who have gaps in the database, and we draft worst to first based on the 120 game mark.
Below is the roster of the available team (owner dropped out mid-draft due to health reasons):
