Redshirting Question Topic

I tried to redshirt a player last season as a freshman and he didn't like it, so I removed the redshirt and his WE went back to normal. I'm curious, if I now try to redshirt him this season as a sophomore will his WE plummet as though I had tried to redshirt him twice in the same season? Or is it a clean slate and if he doesn't like it I can just remove the redshirt and he's back to normal?

You can try but often upperclassmen like red shirting even less than freshmen.

Yeah, I understand it's not likely - I just want to make sure I'm not doing irreparable damage.

To shed a little more light on the situation: I tried to RS a player last season and it didn't work. So I undid it. The problem is I don't remember which player that was. I have a player I want to RS this season and it's possible it's the same guy as before. Can I safely RS him and then just take it off it doesn't work? Or will that count as the second attempt and I'm stuck with a low WE?

If you remove the redshirt immediately after a negative response they have always returned to the original WE in my experience.

I was under the impression that if the player rejected the RS once, the original WE would return. But if you then applied the RS again the WE would drop even further and stay that way. Perhaps I've misunderstood?

No. There have never been consequences to applying the RS, then promptly removing it. The change, a few years ago, was that each WE hit, during the same season, will now be worse than the initial or prior reaction. Before that, a recruit might have a bad reaction, but on the 5th or 10th attempt take it with zero WE loss. No more. Still, as long as you don't leave it on for multiple games during the regular season, there is no chance of a lasting WE hit after prompt removal.

In 3.0 the response to the RS will be immediate. Otherwise, I do not think the logic of acceptance/negative reaction has changed.

Ah, OK. Thanks to you both for the clarification on that. I've got a sophomore about to get fitted for a redshirt!

This has been my thought as well, but looks to no longer be the case. In an updated world i had a great freshman negatively take the redshirt so i removed it and his we is still a two. he was a 52 ath in black a 69 reb with high high potential and a 36 lp with high high potential and had a 48 work ethic. he would have been a stud and now with no knowledge of the change in rules he is gonna suck because of his 2 work ethic. i think thats garbage

Send a ticket.
