I was just wondering if a player who is going to leave a program and transfer for the next season due to lack of playing time--does it happen before the 2nd recruiting session of the current season--leaving you time to recruit another player?

Yes, you'll get notices of players transferring in the morning of the first day of recruiting period 2.
