Decimals. I've had many players change color without the listed number changing, and my only explaination is that there are decimal points we are unable to see.
I'd say that is a solid explanation. Although, all of my squashmore's had the sane thing happen to them after the first exhibition game. If it is truly decimals that are making the difference between a green and blue potential then it is a flaw when it comes to recruiting. What is a coach supposed to believe when they are looking for people that will develop...
It's not a flaw, it just means that the player is at the very bottom edge of the range for that color of potential. So if a player has an attribute that is a green 50 he should develop to, at worst, a 78 (28+ for green). If the 50 was blue he will at least get to 70.
The reason some colors change while the number stays the same is hidden decimals. So in the above example lets assume that the 50 is actually 50.1. Blue will get him to at least 70.1. Assuming that he is at the lower edge of blue potential, if the player improves from 50.1 to 50.2 he would now have less than 20 points of potential left and so the 50 would now show as black.
