Demotion penalty in trade Topic

I just wanted to make sure, I'm pretty sure a player doesn't take a demotion hit if you trade for him and assign him to a lower level right? I just traded for a 19 year old who is in someone else's AAA and I was thinking of assigning him to High A or AA when it went through. That won't affect him negatively right?

Not entirely true. You do run the risk of a demotion penalty, though it is far from certain and (after having it happen to me once) I haven't done it often enough to have any real guess as to whether it is less likely than just a straight demotion.

I've done it many times. Some have taken a hit. Not many but it is a possibility.

I honestly can't recall. I think the ones I got were age/experience related. As in I put a 24 y/o, 4th year pro in AA because I had a better coach there.

I have not seen a demotion penalty with newly assigned traded player. Seems like system takes as like when you first assign an international player. Doesn't matter from what I've seen with my trades. I have put major leaguers in minors after trade and not gotten a penalty.

From what I have seen, a player sometimes take a penalty due to previous owner's actions (e.g., demoting player or not playing in ST games)
