Zone doubleteam Topic

Does anyone know the answer or know a link that will answer this question. Who doubleteams in a zone? Ex: If I double opp SG, is it my PG & SG, or is it my SG & SF. Same for all positions. If I double SF is it PF & SF or SG & SF?

THanks

I don't think you can look at in "basketball terms". 3-2 averages PG/SG/SF and PF/C. 2-3 averages PG/SG, SF/PF and C stands alone. Common sense says the PG/SG/SF doubles on the outside in 3-2 and same for PF/C on inside. PG/SG on the outside in 2-3 and either SF/PF with C on inside. But that seems really friggin' complicated to program.

Therefore, I suspect the double team is a modifier of some sort when the doubled player has the ball. Maybe a previous Dev Chat has the answer.

I am almost positive Mike is right. Double teaming just makes it less likely for a player to shoot and make it and more likely to turn the ball over.

I don't think one specific person does the double teaming

I think this is right. There might be some logic, assuming DT makes fouling more likely, that chooses which player committed the foul (after the "foul" has been "committed"). My guess is that is the only point where the "defender" is selected.

and of course has offsetting positive effects for other players on offense.

I sent in a support ticket on this once. Here was my question and their answer:

QUESTION: Quick question for my own clarification:

If I am running a zone defense and choose to double team an opposing player, my understanding is that my defense becomes a box-and-1, where 1 player is assigned to follow the opposing player all over the court.

When I do this, (1) does the defensive player in the matchup correspond with the offensive player's position (i.e. def SG always shadows off SG) and (2) how does the defensive player's ATH/SPD/DEF individual ratings factor into the success of the double team (is his defensive prowess still the product of the averages of his teammates or is it based solely on his individual ratings).

ANSWER: Grimace,

When playing a zone, you can think of double-teams as more like "key on this player". So a doubled player would often draw multiple defenders from the zone. It's not exactly like a box-and-1, which is a combo man/zone defense.

When playing a zone, any defensive factors are essentially averages of the 5 guys on defense, regardless of double-teams.

Thanks guys. So it doesn't seem to matter if I switch players around in my zone for double team purposes. That's good, as I have enough to worry about knowing when to switch from 2-3 to 3-2. The reason I asked is that I got a SG with 100 def rating and 80 SP. Didn't know if I should keep him at SG or could switch him to PG. Doesn't matter as far as double team purposes. Thanks
