Scouting Question Topic

At D II and D III (D II specifically), what is the best way to go about initial scouting? It is easy enough to filter out players with 'F' offense/defense/athleticism baselines, but do you risk the chance of losing out on players who could potentially be green in those categories and develop into great players?

I am currently only in D II, so generally will only scout D I players; is this a correct method to use?

I guess I struggle with starting with a large number of scouted recruits, but by the time I have filtered my players to certain levels in core categories (to my liking), I might end up with a handful of recruits that I actually want to go after; just trying to widen my net so to speak.

Thanks! As an FYI, I have read aejones' guide and the HD 3.0 guide when it comes to scouting. I am just looking for more personalized advice for what has worked well for others.

This is a big one for trying to find DIII studs in a vast pool of players. Most of these players go uncontested but the limited budgets means I can't waste scouting money sifting through players. I don't understand how experienced coaches narrow down the pool and sign good players without wasting ridiculous amounts of scouting money.

DIII is very difficult due to the limited scouting budget. DII may depend on your location. Personally, I do the elite camp for my region and host a camp (max amount). From there I will do the scouting service for both DI and DII for my state and surrounding states. Next I'll use my assistant to further scout players. I don't bother looking for new ones as my pool is typically large enough at this point. I try to maintain an initial range of 300 miles to maximize results and will increase the mileage if I get all recruits in that range to level 4. I stay low on mileage as recruiting distance increases cost of actions. If I don't have enough funds to do that, I will just use my assistant until I'm around $5k left and search for individual players between DI and DII.

At DIII I don't even bother looking at DIII recruits. The number of good ones you find are not high and become even more of a challenge to find because of limited scouting resources. With that said, if you find one, chances are you only have to beat sim for the recruit. I just look for DII and DI and monitor what attention they get.

DIII isn't hard to scout. Don't go too far, don't scout guys beyond the point that you need to. I almost never use my recruiting money.

Maybe it depends on your location. I stay within my 300 mile range and can never unlock more than about 60% to level 4 with about 10-15% remaining at each level below that.
