Cut vs Leave Topic

Finally getting to the point with some of my D1 teams where I have options with my roster. Is it better to cut a player I recruited to open a spot or reduce their minutes until they leave?

Is there a difference in the negative effects?

Sometimes, they do not leave. I had a player who never played a minute and he never left. There is some sort of random in this. Cut

I've never been able to make a kid leave. I just end up cutting them at the end of the year, if I decide I have better use of the scholarship.

I've actively tried to make a kid leave and couldn't do it. Always cut.

I have long suggested that coaches should have tools that let them encourage players to leave - a dropdown menu of choices

- inform player he will not get meaningful playing time

- require player to wash team laundry

- ask player to write essays for the starters

- date player's girlfriend

- date player's mom

- other
