P.O.R.K. - or Progressive Optional Rookie Keeper League is looking for a replacement owner for the Toronto A's. I am currently setting up the draft. This team will draft 5th throughout the draft.
We are a bit of a blended league -- your team (as are all the teams) are based on one team from the 60's and one team from the 90's -- in this case the 1960's Athletics, and the 1990's Blue Jays. We are entering the 1968/1998 draft. We started in 1963/1993 -- in that year, all the players on each squad were potential keepers, then each season you had the option of keeping any rookie coming into those squads -- so in the process get to keep Reggie Jackson, Catfish Hunter, Vida Blue, Carlos Delgado, John Olerud, Roberto Alomar, Pat Hengen, Vernon Wells, Bert Campenaris and Roy Halladay, in addition to any other Rookie from your two squads you elect to keep.
You must keep 25 players from your 30 man squad going into the next season's free agency draft. If you keep 25 players then you draft 5 rounds, if you keep 26 players then you draft four rounds etc. This way you can "develop" some of your players in the minors until they join the MLB squad.
We are a 20 team league, so free agents available for the draft are from the 1960's teams rookies not kept, plus any other player with WIS stats from that season not kept on any of the other teams. The 1990s free agents available for draft are similar, but there are ten teams (Anaheim, Arizona, Cincinnati, Colorado, Detroit, Florida, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Tampa) who do not have teams in the league, so their rookies were all available (eg. Barry Larkin, Todd Helton went) enabling teams doing poorly to even things out. All other players not kept from the 1990s squads are also available as free agents.
As a result of our set up, all of our teams have kept a "flavor" of their two squads but with free agents we have a very competitive league with lots of parity. As the 1969 expansion teams come, even more free agents will become available for the draft.
Of note the NL has no DH, but AL does have DH. Toronto A's are in the American League. The four division winners compete in the playoffs. Trades are frequent and encouraged. There is a draft lottery for the bottom four finishers, otherwise draft is worst to first.
So who will step up? Below is the roster from the last season. You must keep at least 25 of these players, but in theory can keep up to 30 (though then you would not be able to participate in the draft).
Site mail or post any interest!
