Walk-ons at major schools/conferences Topic

with many major schools in the best conferences with many walk-ons, this sim, to me, is broken....Iowa State with 7, Baylor with 7, Oklahoma with 3, Arkansas with 7, Auburn with 3.....why would anyone try to work to make these programs good again....and most of us can not get to one, such as I had a Final Four team at Creighton and can't get any targeted recruits to sign and with an A- rating I can't get to a program on the decline like Okla as it is A- but going down, to a ranking with many walk-ons....this sim is not working.......From Naismith world

You kidding?? I'd kill to take over a Big 6 conference team with 7 walk ons. Let those idiots walk and start from scratch with a huge AP total. That's a dream scenario for me.

go for it Mwalpole.

That's the gameplan.

And so you know, I agree wholeheartedly with your original post idea. 7 walk-ons to any school is ridiculous, let alone a big time program like Baylor, and needs to be fixed. I just don't agree that nobody would want the job afterwards.

when you are at a Final Four place like I am, built the program after 15-20 seasons, going to have the 2nd pick in the NBA draft and another first round pick, the idea of taking a Power Five scrub program is just not interesting...I don't want to spend five seasons building that low down program. I hope you understand.

The bigger problem is having teams like that on your schedule or in your conference. Crushes your RPI, reduces your tournament seed and is boring for game play. IBA's ACC has 7 SIMS. By the time anyone is eligible to take one of them, they will be in shambles.

If you aren't smart enough to figure that one our I doubt anyone could explain it to you

I thought walk-ons were good to take over, because you can cut them and get recruiting cash, no? Shouldn't I be looking at DII schools with a bunch of walk-ons?

Walk ons don't have to be cut. They go away at the end of the season.

The real measure of how broken the program is...is that while Oklahoma has 7 walkons, DII and DIII schools are signing the players that SIM AI should be filling those open scholarships with. That's where 3.0 has badly missed the mark.

This is how the game was designed. Many testers were howling about this issue during beta but WIS insisted on allowing lower division teams to recruit upper division players. Everyone including WIS knew we would end up here.

Does this make for a good game? It's been debated ad nauseum. Does it make the game "broken"? No.

Sims are recruiting to their baseline prestige. The higher baseline teams in the power conferences are taking handfuls of walkons because they are going after, and getting beaten for a higher caliber of player; and they are not moving down the ladder for lesser recruits. Does that make the sim more or less desirable to take over? Open question. Clearly, there are different opinions on that.

The best of both worlds, IMO, is to drop the asinine stratification process that restricts access to Big 6 teams until a user has dozens of seasons played. The best human applicant should get the job, with very few restrictions - maybe 3-4 seasons for teams with baseline prestige above C+.
