PORK (Progressive Optional Rookie Keeper) League is looking for a replacement owner with Draft Scheduled to Start Monday December 4.
We are a 20 team league (NL no DH, AL has DH), with four division winners advancing to playoffs. Schedule is balanced. There is a good mix of veteran and newbie owners.
You will be taking over the New York Haudenossaunee (feel free to change the name) currently playing at Shea. Owner was a good owner, but has gone AWOL from this and a few other leagues.
Your team is based upon the 1970 New York Mets and 2000 Cleveland Indians.
So this is the deal: We started in 1963 and 1993 - every owner drafted a team from each season, and started with a 30 man roster from those two teams. Every season, you have the OPTION of KEEPING your ROOKIES. So the 60's Mets have acquired Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman and Nolan Ryan. And the 90's Indians have acquired Albert Belle, Manny Ramirez , Brian Giles and Jim Thome.
It gets better: every season there is a draft of all free agents available which includes all Rookies not kept (eg. Oscar Gamble wasn't kept one season), plus Rookies from franchises not in our league (1970's Expos, Brewers, Royals and Padres, and 2000's Rockies, Reds, Rays, Pirates, Cardinals, Diamondbacks, Tigers, Marlins, Brewers and Angels). Players available for draft also includes any WIS players not in the league the previous season. So if there are any gaps in your team, you can draft any of the free agents.
Just so you know, you must keep at least 25 players going into the draft. The 25 players can be any of the 30 players from your squad the previous season, any Rookies for your squad that season. So for 1970 Mets Rookies available include: Ken Singleton. The 2000 Indians Rookies available include: Russel Branyon (who you may or may not want to keep). The other point, is if you keep just 25 players, then you can draft 5 free agents. If you keep 26 players, then you can draft 4 free agents. If you keep 29 players, then you can draft one free agent. So then you would keep 5 of your players on the AAA roster, and can call them up during the season or hang onto them for the next year.
This team did well, and will draft 15th throughout the draft. They finished second in the NL East with a 90-72 record (2 games back).
