Freeing up next year's budget?? Topic

Is there anyway to free up cash in the budget for next season to sign an impending free agent to a long term deal? I only have about $3M available and he is asking $7M. I have tried playing with the numbers over the course of the 3 seasons he is asking, but so far, not close to an acceptance. I know I will have plenty of cash available as I have 3 mutual options (I want all to leave, if they dont, I will buy out). anyway to speed up the process or do I have to wait until rollover to do it then? If I wait until rollover, will that change his desire to stay? Thanks in advance.

Buy out the option when the season is done(release). I've been afraid to do it because I think you might be responsible for the full salary but others have told me my fears are unfounded and you just pay 1/4 as usual.

Interesting idea, anyone have first hand experience in doing this? Would hate to have to eat the entire salary next year if it backfires.

Did you try waiving or trading the players you plan to dump?

I have first hand experience. Releasing the player does what you want it to do.
